A illegal alien from Honduras who’d been ordered to be deported has now been arrested and charged with killing a Virginia college student in a horrific car crash.
Elvis Jamir Cruz-Ferrera, 18, was charged with involuntary manslaughter after police say he smashed his vehicle into 19-year-old Lauryn Ni’Kole Leonard's car back in February in Norfolk, Virginia. The crash caused both drivers to lose control, crashing into the guardrail and killing the woman instantly. Cruz-Ferrera, on the other hand, sustained only minor injuries.
According to records , Cruz-Ferrera most recently crossed the border near Eagle Pass, Texas in 2016 when he was 11 years old, where he was processed by border agents and released with a notice to appear in court under the Obama administration. He eventually moved to Virginia, where he competed school up through the 11th grade, the New York Post reports. An immigration judge had ordered Cruz-Ferrera’s deportation back in 2018 during a hearing he never showed up for, and never responded to.

In the months leading up to the crash, Cruz-Ferrera also reportedly been stopped by police officers multiple times, including one incident back in November in which he’d been cited for reckless driving after being caught going 85 in a 60 mph zone in about the same place where he reportedly hit and killed Leonard just three months later. He was also given tickets on two separate occasions for driving without a license.
Which makes sense given that he’s, you know, an illegal alien.
During each of those stops, however, the cops never looked into his immigration status.
Leonard, who was a student at Old Dominion University at the time, was described by her brother as “A loving person. Friendly. Sociable. Beautiful, inside and out.” The Post reports she'd been texting her family just hours before the fatal crash, telling them how excited she was to start the new job she'd just been offered in the school's admissions office.
Cruz-Ferrera now facades up to 10 yers in prison and has been placed under an ICE detainer. Not that it helps Leonard, or all of the people who now miss her.
