Laws have consequences. And immigration rules are no exception.
A Five Guys location in Birmingham in the U.K. has officially banned pork and alcohol from its menu and has gone fully halal in order to appease local Muslims. According to The Mirror, the burger eatery is also now using only halal-certified beef, and has also nixed hot dogs from its food options.
Hilariously, several customers who've tried the new patties said, well, they kinda suck.
"Halal," meaning "permissible," refers to the food rules that dictate what Muslims are and aren't allowed to eat under Islamic law. Any meat from pigs is a no-go, as is alcohol. The guidelines also lay down methods by which animals must be slaughtered in order to be eaten.
The news comes amid rising concerns about the increasing number of migrants from Muslim countries that have poured into Great Britain over the past decade. At the last census taken in 2021, there were 3.9 million Muslims in the UK, up from 2.7 million in 2011. Muslims now comprise about 6.5% of the total population of the U.K.

This shift, driven in large part by refugees from war-torn Muslim countries spreading across European countries, doesn’t come without a societal ripple effect. A record 25 Muslims were elected to the U.K. Parliament in 2024. When it comes to what a higher Muslim representation could mean for the rest of the country, a recent study conducted by the Policy Exchange, the U.K.’s largest thinktank, found that 43% of British Muslims said they support the introduction of sharia law in the U.K. Another 53% said they prefer sending their children to a school with strong “Muslim values,” while 44% said that schools should be able to insist on a hijab as part of the school’s uniform.
And if you've got beef with any of that, it sure won't have bacon on top.
