When Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) isn’t fretting about Guam tipping over, he’s busy using taxpayer dollars to bypass sluggish government services that use… taxpayer dollars.

Johnson issued a press release last week promoting his “District Passport Day,” a day when the Dept. of State coordinated with Hank’s office go about “bypassing USPS” to help people “voicing concerns in getting their passports processed due to delays caused by the U.S. Postal Service.”

Constituents were able to “apply for their passports in 15 minutes without waiting in lines and worrying about their personal documents getting lost in the mail.”

Wow. A bit of a slam of the USPS there.

So, maybe Johnson realizes competition among government agencies creates better service? Perhaps he’ll eventually realize that less government regulation and more competition would generate better services and prices with a free market?

You may be in line for a long time if you’re waiting for that thought to enter Johnson’s head.
