In 2022, the NFL’s Washington Redskins changed their mascot name to the Commanders to cater to the woke mob. President Donald Trump believes that should never have happened.

Speaking with Fox News on Sunday, a reporter asked the president if he would change the name back to what Washington had for several decades. The franchise changed it in large part because so many other teams with “offensive” Indian-themed team names (like the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Chiefs) faced pressure to do so.

Trump said Washington should never have given in to that pressure.

"Well, you want me to make a controversial statement? I would," Trump said. "I wouldn't have changed the name. It just doesn't have the same, it doesn't have the same ring to me."

He said that if the franchise starts establishing itself as an annual NFL power, the name might have a better ring to it. Even so, Trump would have preferred that they stuck with “Redskins.”

"But, you know, winning can make everything sound good. So if they win, all of a sudden the Commanders sounds good, but I wouldn't have changed the name,” Trump said.

While “Commanders” is a decent rebrand, Washington’s reasons for switching were based on fearing a vocal minority. Its another example of how caving to the progressives leaves you with long-lasting bad consequences, even if in something as simple as a mascot change.
