Burning at the stake isn’t a suitable enough punishment for the subhuman diddlers who’d prey on a child. But, one Utah state senator wants to include some of them back into polite society.

A bill sponsored by state Sen. Todd Weiler (R-Woods Cross) would let certain sex offenders off the lifetime Sex, Kidnap, and Child Abuse Offender Registry after only 10 years, reports Salt Lake City’s Fox-13 affiliate.

If enacted, predators required to register in Utah as an offender for life for a conviction before May, 7 can do the following:

Petition to be removed from the registry “early in accordance with current statute for an individual who is required to register for 10 years.”

Or, the predator can ask the Department of Public Safety to remove them if they have“ already met the registration time frame and requirements for an individual who is required to register for 10 years.”

A registered sex offender in Utah must currently wait 20 years after completing their prison sentence for a judge to consider taking them off the list. This bill could reduce that number to 12 years.

Weiler defends his proposal, lamenting the fact that Utah has 11,000 people on its sex offender database. It seems that he’s more concerned they’re on the database than over what got them registered in the first place.

But he argues sex offenders shouldn’t be branded as…sex offenders forever simply because they “made a mistake,” as if molesting a child is akin to a teenager getting popped once for driving recklessly.

He doubled down on his position, ensuring a judge "would decide if this person has shown they are no longer a threat or not." If the predator gets denied a reduced sentence, no worries! He or she can simply re-apply in 5 years.

Because we all know you can trust the word of those same windowless van types who lie to children about having free candy. As long as they say they'll never do it again, everything's fine and peachy! Riiight?!
