Former CNN anchor Jim Acosta traveled over to the Center for American Progress on Tuesday to praise the No Kings protesters, claim Saturday’s Army parade was really President Trump’s “Kim Jong-un birthday parade,” and, more humorously, claim that Trump’s attacks against the media put liberal priorities like high-speed rail at risk. Later, during the audience Q&A portion of the event, Acosta chimed in on the need to strengthen the media in order to advance liberal priorities:
And so, when editorial people at those news organizations and the people that own those news organizations are getting pressure from the administration, the people in those newsrooms feel it every day. We have to come up with a different way of paying journalists in this country to do their jobs so people can get reliable, truthful, and honest information. If we don't do that, forget about building high-speed rails. They’re never going to get built because nobody will ever understand what the point is of having high-speed rail in this country… Folks on the left and center who care about democracy got to start thinking about bigger ideas that get people’s attention because otherwise it’s just, sort of, nibbling around the edges, and let's just go get this person who might get elected, and maybe they’ve got some good ideas. It’s just not going to work. It’s just not going to work.
