As the media continues to reflect on the last inauguration ahead of January 20th author, poet, and progressive Amanda Gorman has been making her rounds once again on major media stations this Tuesday. Multiple segments on CBS hosted the author touching upon her various appearances both politically and culturally, highlighting her recently published children's book “Girls on the Rise”, which she hopes will resonate with nonbinary children as well as young girls.
Gorman, no stranger to the applause of major news networks following her part in Biden’s election in 2020, returned to the table to talk about her new book. As most of the poet’s work has been mainly political it was no surprise to see a twist in this new publication.
A few years ago, when I was watching Dr. Blasey Ford testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I wrote a poem that night because I knew that feeling of being a woman in a room screaming to be believed and several years later, I decided that might be a message that young girls would need to read, and so that became Girls on the Rise.
