Clashing Statements at UN Support, Criticize China’s Policies in Xinjiang

At the U.N. last week, the representative of Belarus read out a statement on behalf of 54 countries – almost half of them Islamic states – praising China’s treatment of Muslim Uighurs in Xinjiang. In a competing statement, 23 democracies called on Beijing to change direction.
