Not just meat, but from spring water to banking, cosmetics and shipping containers to paint brushes and holiday destinations; the halal certification rackets seek a cut from each and every dollar consumers spend. Since the halal certification cost and the annual renewals are paid from general revenue before taxes, everyone buying from halal-certified companies is funding these schemes, whether Muslim or not.
When will business-savvy followers of non-Muslim religious groups come up with similar schemes? And what will it take for consumers to wake up?
