If a nation decides to go to war, it has a moral obligation to those it sends into harm’s way to give them every possible advantage to allow them to win as quickly and with as few casualties as possible. Somehow, this basic idea was offensive to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show host-of-the-week Michael Kosta, who ridiculed and condemned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for articulating it on Wednesday.

Kosta cued up a montage of Hegseth clips by sarcastically hoping, “You know what? The plan for succession is not going well, how about the war itself? And I don't need to hear from Donald Trump this time. Surely, there must be a more sober voices in this administration.

The series of clips was not in chronological order, but it got Kosta’s point across, “America is winning. Decisively, devastatingly, and without mercy… Iran cannot outlast us…We control their fate…They are toast. And they know it…This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight.”
