More than three years after he first called for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down, President Obama on Wednesday sounded a pessimistic note on a conflict that has cost some 200,000 lives, saying that it was “not going to be solved anytime soon” and indicating that Iraq, not Syria, was the priority.
