Controversy erupted Tuesday after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said – with a smile – that “there will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration,” although he also indicated moments later that the world should have confidence that the State Department will be “functional” and “succesful” with whomever is president at one minute after noon on January 20.
