Pompeo: US “Encouraged China’s Rise … Even When That Rise Was at the Expense of American Values’

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday the United States needs to confront rather than accommodate China’s communist government, saying administrations going back decades had encouraged China’s rise, “even when that rise was at the expense of American values, Western democracy and security, and good common sense.”
