Putin Admits Decision to Annex Crimea Was Linked to Concerns That Ukraine Will Join NATO

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday acknowledged that the decision was also prompted by strategic concerns about Ukraine joining NATO. “When the infrastructure of a military bloc is moving towards our borders it makes us also take steps in the opposite direction and this is our right as well,” he said. “Our decision on Crimea was partially connected to that.”
