If allegations that the Syrian regime used chlorine gas as a weapon recently are proven true, the action would be a contravention of the Chemical Weapons Convention, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed Tuesday. As such, the action would also violate an agreement Syria reached with the U.S. and Russia last September, she suggested, since that agreement required Syria to join and comply with the CWC.
