US Counter-Terror Envoy in 2017 Called Idlib ‘The Largest Al-Qaeda Safe Haven Since 9/11’

In July last year, the U.S. special envoy for the anti-ISIS coalition, Brett McGurk, told an event at the Middle East Institute that Syria’s Idlib province had become a “huge problem,” and described it as “the largest al-Qaeda safe haven since 9/11.”
