The state of Massachusetts has just passed a law that allows every student in the state to receive free community college tuition - even illegal aliens.
On Monday, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed the 2025 state budget into law, which allocates nearly $100 million to make college tuition free at the state's 15 community colleges. The initiative, named Mass Educate, aims to advance the state’s goal of achieving greater educational equity.
A spokesperson for the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance, Paul Craney, spoke to the NewBostonPost explaining how the new law, which also allows for illegal aliens to attend community college, free-of-charge will harm taxpayers in the state.

“Massachusetts is a magnet state for illegal and inadmissible migrants, due to our very generous taxpayer-funded benefits,” he explained. “There is nothing as expensive as making something free, including community college. The cost will inevitably balloon and the taxpayers will forever be obligated to pay for this irresponsible decision.”
He continued, “There is nothing more irresponsible than a politician making something ‘free’ and implying to people that someone else will pay for it. Everyone should have some skin in the game. Continuing to disconnect people from the actual costs of higher education is only going to make it more expensive for everyone in the long run.”
Unfortunately, Craney is right: nothing is free. The promise of ‘free’ services is misleading, as it ultimately increases taxes and government size. Additionally, this law could reward those who entered the country illegally, which only shifts the financial burden on to taxpayers, and incentivizes more illegals to flood into the Bay State.
